Off the Charts features works by Josh Callaghan, Luftwerk, Ken Lum, Kristin McIver, and David Schafer that transform the visual representation of data and analytics into contemporary artworks. The world in which we live in is almost entirely governed by algorithms. The volume of data being produced, gathered, analyzed, and stored has never been greater. Works included in this exhibition merge art and information making critical commentary of an increasingly networked age. Examining nature, human behavior, social structures, and political divide, Off the Charts demonstrates how we are affected by the collection of data and how we can affect it, reminding that we have the power to change the statistics.
David Allan Peters
David Allan Peters is known for his innovative process of accumulating thin sheets of solid color and then excavating the surface with a blade and these latest works are, for the artist, a “return to painting”. The base layers now incorporate thick abstract compositions, one buried on top of another, with colors spewing from the surface strata leading to the liberation of a more calculated linear depth than seen in previous paintings. Each of the seven panels included in this exhibition possess an exuberant color palette of bright neons juxtaposed with soft pastels and lush jewel tones.
